In 1984, a terrible story began to unfold on our television screens and in our newspapers. Across the ocean in Ethiopia, millions of innocent human beings were starving due to drought and felt they had nowhere to turn. Once the story came out, Canada was the first country to get food to the people. While the situation stabilized, the Ethiopian people are still extremely poor and very much in need of our help.

This website is a collection of stories—about life in Ethiopia today, the challenges the people face, and the solutions we are implementing to overcome those challenges. There are the success stories of people who’ve overcome tremendous adversity to make significant marks on the world, stories of the organizations we’ve partnered with, and stories of heroes—people who have dedicated their lives to help those less fortunate.

As an Alberta charity focused on development in Ethiopia, Rainbow for the Future raises money to help the poorest of the poor—those who often go without food, education, or even clean water. We are a bridge between the generous, loving hearts of Albertans and others across North America to people whose lives would be drastically different without the initiatives we fund.

With the help of our partners and generous donors, we have raised $10 million and helped about one million people in Ethiopia. It’s just $10 a person but the changes we have made have been significant.

We have given people food security so they don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. We have given people clean water in their communities so they don’t have to spend hours travelling to get water that might make them and their children sick. We have built schools and grinding mills, provided medical equipment and, most importantly, instilled hope and joy.
